The Genetic Counseling Program, a collaborative effort of Concord Hospital, NH Oncology-Hematology, PA (NHOH) and Dana-Farber Cancer
Institute (DFCI), provides high-risk patients critical genetic counseling and testing close to home. DFCI Genetic Counselors are
available to provide expert consultation to patients at the Concord Hospital Breast Care Center, along with input
from an NHOH physician. All cases are reviewed by the team at DFCI Cancer Risk & Prevention Program.
When you call the Breast Care Center:
- A brief phone interview determines if an appointment is recommended for you;
- You meet with the ARNP to review your personal and family history and to discuss a plan of care. If indicated, an appointment with
a DFCI Genetic Counselor is made to review this information further and to discuss testing;
- If testing is recommended, you have the option of going to a laboratory site to have blood drawn;
- If you decide to be tested, and you are found to carry a genetic alteration, a second appointment is made to review the findings and consider future recommendations with the
DFCI Genetic Counselor and the NHOH Medical Oncologist.
Identifying individuals who are at high-risk for developing cancer provides the opportunity to work with healthcare providers
and take proper steps for risk reduction and increased surveillance. For more information, call the Breast Care Center at (603) 230-7266.
